Children sharing a room.
When children share a room keeping floor space is ultra important. Bunk beds or trundle beds free up the floor space.
A tall secured book shelf is great for book storage or storage of toys.
Avoid large toys with limited play value or that do not break down for storage.
Think totes with covers instead of toy boxes. These are stackable and most often can be bought see through so toys need not be dumped out to be found.
Install shelving around the room close to the ceiling for added storage.
Roll away totes for under the bed make excellent toy or out of season clothing storage.
De-clutter often tossing out grown clothing, toys or items that are damaged or broken.
Decorate the temporary way
Most landlords ask that you do not paint. So you have to think out of the paint can.
For children’s rooms there are stick on decals that are removable. These are not wall paper and do not damage paint or wall paper. They often come in popular themes and are not to expensive. The plus is if you move you can reuse them over and over again.
Curtains and drapes are a great way to create a room, you can darken, lighten add punches of color and change the way light enters a room. Be creative with layers, shades, tie backs and more.
Pictures also can add color and theme to a room.
Furniture plays a huge part in decorating if you live in an apartment size is often very important…scaled down furniture saves space, color and texture add character to your space. Functionality can also be found if you look hard.
Flowers & plants bring a room together add color .If you do not have great lighting to days fake plants are very real to the eye and require little to no care .
Lighting can be softened, brightened, you can add drama, colors with a colored bulb .Lamps add to décor will providing function.
Organization tips
Kitchen
-Buy acrylic glasses they look glass but they are hard to break and they are stackable to save space.
-Do not buy appliances you rarely use they are a waste of space.
Living room
-If you collect DVDs or CDs consider a large CD wallet this saves space and keeps DVDs safe if you do not mind losing the cases. If you prefer to keep the cases buy a tall media shelf (almost floor to ceiling) very tall but slim so no floor space is wasted.
-Halogen or touchier lamps are tall and light a room well with out needing a table to rest on.
-Large mirrors fool the eye into seeing more space
Bed rooms
- Wardrobes are large and expensive, but if you have space they are well worth it. They provide a lot of storage for places that do not have enough.
-Tall dressers opposed to wide ones are easier to move and provide ample space with out taking more floor space.
-Cedar chests provide great season storage and a place to sit.
-Remember the biggest wasted space is under the bed. Use the space for storage the make roll away totes just for this purpose.
Bathroom
-Organize toiletries in baskets
-Wire hanging baskets like those found in the kitchen gadget section of Wal-Mart make great out of the way storage.
-Add shelving to increase storage space
-Over the door shoe bags are great for make up storage, hair things and other small bathroom finds (Really great for any room)
